Mailing our Valentines and Making Sticky Rice Dumplings

Friday February 22, 2012

I take it everyone had a relaxing Chinese New Year.  I heard through the students of many adventures overseas and locally.  This was a busy week because we are getting ready for international week next week.  As I mentioned before the Pre-K’s are studying Singapore and we have spent the week learning more about this and other countries.  Next Tuesday and Wednesday morning are the big days where we present what we learnt about Singapore to everyone.  We will also be visiting all of the other grades in the elementary department to learn more about the country they studied.  Parents are welcome to join us and below you will see the schedule of events.  It is always a highlight of the school year and we have been working very hard to prepare for this day.

On Tuesday and Wednesday could you please dress your child in all red and white.  These are the national colours of Singapore and it will add to our song and presentation.

A gentle reminder to please try to get your son or daughter to school by at least 8:30am, there is always more to do as the year progresses and the mornings are always a good opportunity for me to assess the students.

Lastly, if your son or daughter is sick/away from school could you please either email me or phone the office.  It is hard for Ms. Vicky and me to answer our phones in the morning and occasionally we may also be sick.  Also, if you have any special requests or information to pass along emailing me or phoning the office is the best method.

Friday February 8, 2012

Wow that was a very busy week for the Pre-K class.  On Tuesday we had a party for the 100th day of school and all week we celebrated Chinese week and Valentines Day.  For Valentines Day our amazing grade 3 buddies wrote and made us some fantastic cards.  We also wrote Valentines Day cards for them and each other.  For our 100th day of school we counted 100 candies to see how far they would go, ran for 100 seconds, ate 100 pieces of popcorn, made a 100 loop paper chain, made a 100 finger poster and decorated pictures of how we all will all look when we are 100.  Following this we had some cake and other goodies.  It was a great day and everyone had a blast.

After Chinese New Year we will start our multicultural until.  Multicultural week is February 25th to March 1st and every class in the elementary department will showcase one country.  The Pre-K’s will be learning and sharing with the school the country of Singapore.   We will also be rotating through other elementary classes to learn about the countries they studied (Feb26 and27) It is going to be a great week to learn about many different places in the world and I hope to see many parents join in on the festivities.

I know many of you are going to be travelling over the break and Ms. Vicky and I want to wish you safe travels and Happy New Year.

Lastly, we had a review week so no letter book went home today.

The student of the week is Kyle, Ms. Vicky and I have seen a lot of growth over the past few weeks.  He is now becoming very independent throughout the day and enjoys doing things all by himself.  He is also very proud when he completes tasks without any help.  Great job Kyle and keep up the great work!
