      So our silkworms made their cocoons too fast and I am sorry to say that not all of the students got to take them home for a night.  However, in a few days we should see the moths come out and then start laying eggs.  So we will be having many little baby silkworms very soon.

To end the year and this unit, I am going to be sending a letter home next week about an upcoming field trip to a silkworm farm.  This will be a perfect way for the students to see the entire process of making silk from silkworms.

Our performance is only a few days away and we all have been working very hard; it’s going to be a great show!  On the same day there will be art work on display from all of the grades in Mrs. Willis classroom (next door to mine).  The entire day is going to be dedicated to the arts, so I all hope you can make it!

What we did in our centres this week.

Literacy Centres

1.        Silk worm observation book.

2.     Word puzzles first sounds play and write.

3.     Computer book, “I have two dogs.”

4.     Guided reading with a teacher.

Math and Science Centres

1.       Water estimation buckets.

2.     Spring adding books #2.

3.     Sequencing caterpillars.

4.     Life cycle butterfly and frog puzzles.

Reminders and Notices

1.       Please replace extra clothes when they come home.

2.     No school June 6^th due to Dragon Boat festival.

3.    Wednesday June 1^{st at} 10:00a.m Pre-K performance and art show.

4.     Last day of school June 23^rd.

Silkworms

So that lovely weather we had before the long weekend didn’t last and it was a very wet holiday for us all.  Well at least it’s beautiful outside now!  In the Pre-K class this week we have been busy practicing for our June Graduation performance.  Just a reminder that it will take place June 1^st in the basement gym and it will start at 10:00am.  After the Pre-K performance there will be graduations for the Kindergarten and Grade 6 students along with a musical number performed by the orchestra.

Our silkworms are growing very fast and I am hoping that before they make their cocoons each child will get to take it home for one night.  I have started sending them home with one student a night.   It has been a great learning experience watching them grow and change.  Everyone looks forward to seeing how much they change each day.

   I want to thank everyone for the help and support for the Baby Boss field last week.  It was a major success and the kids really enjoyed themselves.  We have now finished our Community Helpers unit and have moved onto insects.  To help study this unit we have silk worms in our class.  So next time you are by the classroom come in and see our newest Pre-K pet.

 

Also, this month we are going to be busy preparing for our performance that will take place June 1^st.  It will be in the morning but make sure you are free because it is going to be really good.  Over the next week I am going to be asking for certain clothes to be brought in for costumes.   Below you will find your child’s name along with the clothes that will be needed for the performance.  It doesn’t matter if there is some writing or logos on the shirt; if so they can wear them inside out.

Sports Day

Please remember that sports day is tomorrow and don't forget sun screen, hat, water bottle, proper running shoes, and the specific colour shirt for your team.  Its going to be a fun day out!

Baby Boss Information

Just a few reminders and notices for our field trip this week to Baby Boss.  Please have your child at the Taiwan high speed rail station by 8:40am.  We will be meeting in front of the 7-11 inside the station.  If you are late please give Mrs. Vicky or I a call to let us know.  We will  return to Hsinchu by 3:10pm and I will dismiss the students from the 7-11 inside.  Just a reminder to please send the necessary documents  and money in as soon as possible.  Also on the day each child will need to bring their health card for I.D.
