I want to thank everyone for the help and support for the Baby Boss field last week. It was a major success and the kids really enjoyed themselves. We have now finished our Community Helpers unit and have moved onto insects. To help study this unit we have silk worms in our class. So next time you are by the classroom come in and see our newest Pre-K pet.

Also, this month we are going to be busy preparing for our performance that will take place June 1^st. It will be in the morning but make sure you are free because it is going to be really good. Over the next week I am going to be asking for certain clothes to be brought in for costumes. Below you will find your child’s name along with the clothes that will be needed for the performance. It doesn’t matter if there is some writing or logos on the shirt; if so they can wear them inside out.

Duncan: yellow shirt, black shorts

Jerrick: red shirt, black shorts

Ashley: a beautiful dress (come talk to me for more details)

Nathan: yellow shirt and pants or shorts

Vincent: black shirt and pants or shorts

Kristopher: white shirt and pants or shorts

Also, don’t forget that there is no school this Monday and Tuesday (May 16^th and 17^th). Hopefully the weather will be as great as it has been so everyone can get outside!

What we did in our centres this week.

Literacy Centres

1. Silk worm observation book.

2. Connect 4 initial sounds game.

3. Word puzzles.

4. Computer book, “Bumble Bee Queen.”

5. Guided reading with a teacher.

Math and Science Centres

1. Water estimation.

2. Spring adding books.

3. Sequencing caterpillars.

Sports Day

Please remember that sports day is tomorrow and don't forget sun screen, hat, water bottle, proper running shoes, and the specific colour shirt for your team. Its going to be a fun day out!

Baby Boss Information

Just a few reminders and notices for our field trip this week to Baby Boss. Please have your child at the Taiwan high speed rail station by 8:40am. We will be meeting in front of the 7-11 inside the station. If you are late please give Mrs. Vicky or I a call to let us know. We will return to Hsinchu by 3:10pm and I will dismiss the students from the 7-11 inside. Just a reminder to please send the necessary documents and money in as soon as possible. Also on the day each child will need to bring their health card for I.D.

Once again we have had a very busy week in the Pre-K class. Our trip to the fire museum was a lot of fun and we were even able to take ride in the ladder truck. I want to thank Mr. and Mrs Cheng and Mrs. Chou for generously driving us.

A gentle reminder for tomorrow (Friday April 29^th) to please have your children at school by 8:30am, this will enable us to be on time for our next field trip to the Taichung Science Centre. When we are on the road coming home I will SMS/text each of for an approximant time when we will be returning to school. We are hoping to be back at 4:30pm.

Next week we be visiting the fire station and Baby Boss. I want to thank everyone for their support in Baby Boss. I am aware that it is a costly trip but I know the students will gain so much from it. Please remember that children need to be dropped off and picked up at the Taiwan high speed rail station.

Lastly, we have a date for sports day. It will be next Wednesday May 4^thin the afternoon. We will have an early lunch (11:00am) then go over to the back field to have some fun. Below are the t-shirts I would like each child to wear. Like it was suppose to before it corresponds with their team. If any parent would like to come and watch you are more then welcome.

Taichung Field Trip

This Friday is the field trip to the Taichung science centre. Could you please dress your child in the HIS P.E school shirt. This will make it easier to keep track of the students.

Originally from just outside Toronto, Canada, Mr Sharp received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the maritime province of New Brunswick at the University of New Brunswick. College was his first taste of travelling away from home, then after graduation he took off right away to Taiwan. His reason for first coming here was that his undergraduate studies included Taiwan - after a few courses he knew that he had to see this beautiful country. He taught Kindergarten and Physical Education in Taipei for two years before heading back home to Canada. In Canada he taught Grades 7 and 8 for one year. He did enjoy his time teaching the older grades but he knew that his talent and heart was teaching the youngest students. After only one year in Canada Mr. Sharp left his homeland again, travelling to Bangalore, India, to teach Pre-Kindergarten. This year, Mr. Sharp will be continuing with what he feels he does best - teaching the Pre-K class.

Mr. Sharp firmly believes in the importance of learning in all areas in the Pre-K class and is never afraid to push his students to do things that they never thought they could accomplish. Through positive interactions and goal-oriented teaching all students can learn successfully. Don’t be surprised to see Mr. Sharp engaging with his students on the ground or interacting with them as if he is 4 years old! He loves relating to his students and learning with them. He feels that he is always learning when he is in the classroom.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Sharp is an avid runner and swimmer. When in Canada he swam nationally and internationally. He is starting a swim team at HIS and is very excited about spending time coaching students in this activity.
