Things have been very busy
around HIS and I am sorry for not having a blog post last week. We are still investigating insects and are
still waiting for our silkworm eggs to hatch in the classroom. We also have a live butterfly and many small
insects that we caught over the past two weeks in the classroom. Next Friday is our silkworm field trip;
please remember to pack a suitable lunch to eat outside, also sunscreen and bug repellent. I hope to see many of you next Wednesday at
the art show, as the Pre-K’s will have many pieces of work displayed. The school will also have a special exhibit
on the famous artist, Matisse.
Next Tuesday is going to
be Daphne’s last day with us in the Pre-K class as she will be heading back to Singapore . We will all miss her so much and wish her good
luck at your next school.

Silkworm Field Trip
Dear
Parents,
For our last field trip of the year and to end our unit on
insects I am planning a trip to a silkworm farm. It is located north of Miaoli and will take
around 40 minutes by bus to get there.
It is going to take place Friday
June 1st from 9:00 until 2:00.
We will be taking a bus to the farm. The cost of field trip will be 450nt; this will give us a guide to
take us through the entire process from the trees to the silk, insurance and
for the bus. Also, on the day we will be
having our lunch at the farm so could you please pack a suitable lunch.
cheers

The annual Baby Boss field trip was a major success and I
really want to thank everyone that came to Taipei last Friday with us. I had lots of help and it was great to see
everyone together. The refund from the
extra money was sent home this week. The
reason for variation in the amount refunded is because some parents paid for taxis
and/or had Baby Boss VIP cards. If you
have any questions please come by and speak to me.
This month the Pre-K’s
will be studying insects and in math; estimation, volume, measurement and
addition. For our insects unit we will
start raising silkworms in our classroom.
They are currently eggs but soon will be hatching into tiny
silkworms. The students especially enjoy
watching the metamorphosis from eggs to moths.
At the conclusion of this unit I would like to take the students on a
field trip to the silkworm farm in Mioali.
It is a small farm where the students can see how silk is used and learn
about the entire process from eggs to silk (below is the link to the farm). It is a great trip and will be the last field
trip for the Pre-K’s. It will be in
early June sometime. For this trip I am
still debating asking parents to carpool or to renting a bus. The cost of a bus will be approximately 450nt
per student. Please let me know what you
prefer so I can make the necessary arrangements.
Today I also sent home the
word rings. There will be many new words
on the rings; could you please practice the sight words with your son or
daughter. Once you are finished could
you please send them back to school.
